Elisha A. Hoffman, pastor e escritor de hinos na Igreja Evangélica, nasceu em Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, em 7 de Maio de 1839. Durante onze anos trabalhou para Evangelical Association com sede em Cleveland, Ohio. Depois pastoreou várias igrejas evangélicaas em Ohio e Michigan. Hoffman era um escritor prolífico de hinos, brindando-nos com os poemas e a música de "I Must Tell Jesus," "What a Wonderful Saviour," e de "Are You Washed in The Blood?" Ele também escreveu os poemas de "Glory to His Name" e " Leaning on The Everlasting Arms."
